Foundation issues?

Are you at a very uncomfortable corner in your life right now wondering why some things just don’t seem to be working out quite as smoothly as you imagined they would?
Do you find yourself feeling trapped in your present circumstances and almost wondering why nothing in your today resembles all you envisaged and got a glimpse of in your yesterday?
Have you found it hard to resist the temptation of thinking that God somehow tricked you into that spot?

I guess the Psalmist considered such things when he wrote Psalm 11 which is why he says in verse 3 “If the foundations be faulty, what can the righteous do?” The foundations are the real issue. In our walk with the Lord, there are three of those foundations that we need to visit constantly to make sure they are unshaken. Our faith in God, our knowledge/study of the word and our fellowship with the Holy Spirit and with other believers.

Faith says “God will bring it to pass because He said so” even when the physical manifestation seems a million miles away from close to where He said He was taking you. When God gave the Israelites a glimpse of the promised land, He described it as a land flowing with milk and honey. You and I know that milk comes from cows and honey comes from bees. Now stop and ask yourself if there can be any milk without cows or any honey without bees. Regardless of the unpleasantness that may come from the messy nature of the cow or the stinking nature of the bees, we should be able to cope because we know that there is more to cows and bees than the mess and the stinks. So how is your faith today?

Tell me your thoughts and I will tell you what you have been feeding your mind with. Remember GIGO (garbage in, garbage out)? Yeah what you feed your mind is what determines what will come out so if you stay close to the word of God and study it in and through that moment, out of your heart will flow the word of God that brings life and sustenance. When was the last time you studied the word? I mean studying it for you and not listening to a devotional or someone else’s opinion about what the passage possibly means. Scripture is the best interpreter of scripture. Does that mean that God can’t use others to minister to you? Absolutely not but their ministration should not replace your study of the word.

Fellowship with the Holy Spirit is just as important as your faith and your study/knowledge of the word of God. He indwells you for that very reason. Jesus said of his sheep ” My sheep listen to my voice, I know them and they follow me” Do you know his voice? Can your distinguish it from that of the devil, the world or your own mind? Tue fellowship can not happen without communication so just in case you don’t know his voice, that is where you need to start.

Realize that these three elements are intertwined and affect each other. No true fellowship is possible without a sound knowledge of the word just like faith is impossible without the word etc. How are your foundations today? When was the last time you paused to consider them? Sometimes it is easy to assume that all three are in order so here is one tip to help you realize when either one, two or all of them are out of order. LISTEN TO YOURSELF! That is the best mirror that will reveal the content of your heart because out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.

Do you have foundation issues today? Note that if your foundations are faulty, not even my prayers for you or the intercession of others will help you. So I visit your foundations today and ensure that they are in order.
