Little by Little

We hunger, we thirst, we yearn
For large chunks of anything
Of everything that can satisfy

All at once we want to grab
To seize, to possess
The things we desire and seek

To wait a minute longer
To proceed one tiny step at a time
To us, is asking too much

Yet He who goes ahead
Who plans and orders our lives
Cannot but do so little by little

Still little by little seems unfair
Cruel, inconsiderate, insensitive and yes, unfair
As our restless hearts can’t wait another minute

“I am ready to do and have this”
“By all means I am aptly set”
Thus to little by little we become resentful

Smiling lovingly and understandably so
For He alone sees the bigger picture
And insists to proceed little by little

Inspired by Exodus 23:30 “Little by little I will drive them out before you until you have increased enough to take possession of the land.”

Do you trust Him enough to follow His lead little by little?
