Ever get to that place where it seems like the very ground which once soothed your aching feet and on which you now stand is giving way beneath you?
Ever get to the place where the very fresh green vegetation that brought refreshment to your body and spirit can no longer be found?
Ever get to that spot where blossoming fruit trees once satisfied your hungry soul only to find that not even the trees were able to resist the devastating effect of the heat?
Ever get there and all you can do is stare hard and hope… hope that all the splendor you once enjoyed would be restored even if you no longer qualify to drink it in from close proximity?
Are you standing on dry ground right now?
Do you feel the drought eating you up slowly and fear that you may eventually get consumed?
Do you feel the hunger pangs swell within you and fear that you will gradually starve to death?
Do you feel the dryness of your throat grow intense and worry that you may lose your voice altogether?
Do you feel the heat beat against your body ever more fiercely and wonder what might become of you?
Do you feel the soreness of your feet gradually eat up to your legs and knees and imagine if it could get any worse?
Do you feel the searing pain cut to your heart as the cracks on your once soft and smooth skin get deeper with each passing minute?
Do you feel your whole being gently losing touch with reality and imagine that transiting out of this life would be so much easier and better than your current situation?
Believe it or not, I have been there – in fact, still there in some areas of my life. You would think that after being there so many times, one would have the answers you seek but no! My experience has been that each time is different from the one before it in a myriad different ways and so I can’t even pretend that the experience of two different lives will have a lot in common.
Yet this one thing I know, when the changing scenes of life become too frequent and constant, there are certain CONSTANTS that can sustain and bring meaning to any soul in despair.
So here goes a few CONSTANTS you can rely on;
His help -Isa. 41:10
His love – Rom. 8:38-39
His grace – 1 Cor. 12:9
His mercies – Lam. 3:22-23
His presence – Ps. 139:6-8
Dry times? No worries, even these too shall pass.
